Michael Wong holds first concert in Japan

-

MICHAEL Wong, an entertainment veteran of over 20 years in the industry, held his maiden concert in Japan – a first for a Malaysian, reported China Press.

The singer, who described it as a dream come true after the concert at Zepp Tokyo music hall on March 18, said he had been intrigued by his Japanese following.

“Every year, I’ll receive Christmas cards from Japanese fans.

“Some of them hoped that I would stage a concert in Japan.

“But I kept asking myself how this could be possible.

“This time, I went at the invitation of an organiser in Japan. It was like fulfilling my fans’ wishes,” he was quoted by the daily as saying.

Wong said he heaved a sigh of relief after the show as he had mixed feelings and felt uneasy before that.

In order to surprise his fans, he even chose to sing Mirai e (To the Future) by Kiroro.

The Mandarin version of the song is Hou Lai (In Retrospect), popularised by Taiwanese singer Rene Liu.

Wong said he had to learn the lyrics in Japanese by heart as he only knew a few Japanese words.

“It’s like going back to my schooldays as I had to memorise the lyrics.

“Although the pronunciation might not be accurate, I was sincere in my rendition,” he added.

> Guang Ming Daily reported that Leon Lai, one of Hong Kong’s Four Heavenly Kings of the 1990s, is set to become a father soon.

The 51-year-old broke the good news on Monday on Facebook.

“It is fated that two people who have experienced divorce now have the chance to come together.

“I will proceed to another stage in life with a little life coming our way.

“As a father, I need to protect my family. I won’t simply expose them in public and I believe those who have become parents would feel the same way,” he wrote.

It is learnt that the woman is his personal assistant known as Ah Wing, who is said to be six months’ pregnant.

Lai married model Gaile Lok in 2008. They divorced in 2012.
