55 mat lajak with modified bicycles detained

-

SEREMBAN: Police detained 55 mat lajak with their modified bicycles – including some without proper brakes- near the Lenggeng Forest Reserve here.

The boys, aged between 10 and 15, were seen loitering in the area by a police patrol on Tuesday.

Nilai OCPD Supt Zaldino Zaludin said the boys were taken to the Lenggeng police station.

There they admitted the 50 modified bicycles and four motorcycles belonged to them, he said.

“They said they had come to the park to relax as it was school holidays,” he said.

Supt Zaldino said the boy’s parents were then called in and some had no clue that their sons had gone to the recreational forest.

However, the boys, who were from Mantin, Lenggeng and Pantai were only given a slap on the wrist after they promised to remove the modification or fix their bicycles within two weeks.

Supt Zaldino said the boys were not issued with any summonses.

“We could have also impounded the bicycles under the Road Transport Act,” he said.

Supt Zaldino said action could also be taken against parents for leaving their children unsupervised under the Child Act 2001.

He added that Nilai police would continue their operations to keep the mat lajak off roads.
