Shaw puts in extra training sessions after Mourinho bust-up

-

LONDON: Luke Shaw has been putting in extra training sessions this week despite his latest blazing row with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

The majority of the fullback’s teammates are away on international duty, with the out-of-favour 22-year-old among the few left behind.

And those not called up for their countries have been granted some time off by their boss.

Chris Smalling is among those to jet off on holiday amid his latest England snub.

But Manchester Evening News claims that Shaw has been spotted at United’s Carrington HQ undergoing an extra workload.

The former Southampton ace once again came under fire from the Special One after he was hauled off at half-time during the English FA Cup quarter-final victory over Brighton on Saturday.

That followed an amazing training ground bust-up between the pair before the clash with the Seagulls.

Shaw has no future at Old Trafford after Mourinho suggested the leftback wanted to be subbed during the 2-0 win against Chris Hughton’s side.

When asked why the defender was subbed at the weekend, Mourinho said: “I wanted my defensive line to be more solid and I want more personality in my team because many times I felt that (Nemanja) Matic was an island of personality, desire, and control surrounded by a lack of personality, a lack of class and a lack of desire.”

The two men have endured a difficult relationship since the Portuguese arrived at Old Trafford in 2016.

Shaw was blamed by Mourinho for one of the goals conceded in a defeat at Watford last season before the boss questioned the youngster’s reason for missing a later game against Swansea.

The player responded by uploading a clip of himself working out on a day off, which led to him being spoken to by Jose’s assistant Rui Faria.

But after his return to the squad in recent months, Shaw last week approached the United chief for assurances over his future.

But Mourinho flew off the handle at him in an extraordinary outburst that convinced Shaw he has no chance of repairing his relationship with the manager.

Shaw, who is desperate to break into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the World Cup, went to see his gaffer after United’s stirring comeback at Crystal Palace where they were 2-0 down and eventually won 3-2.

Mourinho had sent him on with 23 minutes left but he was then an unused sub for the win over Liverpool and excluded altogether from the squad which lost to Sevilla in the Champions League.

The Special One told him he would play in the Cup tie with Brighton, although it was designed to be a shop window ahead of a summer move away from United.

But Mourinho was furious with Shaw’s performance and replaced him with Ashley Young at the start of the second half.

However Shaw remains keen to keep up his hard work on the pitch and he will be hoping to prove his manager prove with the extra sessions and earn a spot for United’s next Premier League clash with Swansea after the international break. — The Sun, London
