IPOH: Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming who has been tipped to contest against Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong in the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat has a message for Taiping Gerakan.

“I know everyone wants to know (if it is true). But for now, I have only one thing to tell Taiping Gerakan.

“Don’t celebrate too soon. Just wait and see what’s going to happen,” he said during the press conference here yesterday.

The Perak DAP chairman claimed he had received information that Taiping Gerakan was “overjoyed and has been celebrating with champagne” after news of him leaving Taiping for Teluk Intan surfaced on Wednesday.

Nga only smiled and said: “That’s all I can say at the moment” when asked to elaborate on what he meant.

Sin Chew Daily in its front page on Wednesday reported that DAP central leaders had decided that Nga would take on Mah, who won the Teluk Intan seat in the May 2014 byelection.

Nga was coy when asked if he was contesting the seat, adding he will make the announcement “at the right time”.

Earlier, Nga announced that Keranji assemblyman Chen Fook Chye and Jelapang assemblyman Teh Hock Ke were stepping down and not contesting in the coming polls.

Meanwhile, he said that Perak DAP would contest seven parliamentary and 18 state seats in Perak.

“The parliamentary seats are Ipoh Timur, Ipoh Barat, Batu Gajah, Kampar, Taiping, Teluk Intan and Bruas, while all the state seats are incumbent seats.

“The decision was made during the Perak Pakatan Harapan seat negotiations that were finalised two months ago.

“There will be a mix of veteran and young candidates, and old and new faces from different races this time around,” he said.

In an unrelated matter, Nga also called on the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to expedite the approval of the Pakatan Harapan pact’s registration, which has taken 10 long months now.

Taking a swipe at RoS, he said the government agency should be professional.
