Housewife gets prosthetic leg, thanks to 1MCA Foundation
KUALA LUMPUR: A 57-year-old housewife who lost her right leg due to an infection can finally walk today after the 1MCA Medical Foundation covered most of the cost for a prosthetic leg.
The prosthesis costs more than RM6,000, to which the foundation contributed RM5,000, said Ng Geok Hong.
Ng said a tin can fell and slit open her toe, which then got infected before her leg had to be amputated from the knee down.
The incident happened a year ago and it has been difficult for Ng, who also had to learn how to push herself up from bed to get into a wheelchair.
The 1MCA Medical Foundation helps cover the medical expenses of Malaysians who are unable to afford them.
It offers partial contributions to pay for medical equipment, services, treatments and medications not available at government hospitals.
It also helps with partial contributions for certain emergency treatments.
Ng, a mother of four, said she spent about a month at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital after the surgery.
Now back at home, she said the prosthetic leg unfortunately caused skin allergies and bruises.
“The Federal Territory Wanita MCA held a fund-raiser among members to help pay for another prosthetic leg that will hopefully be more suitable for me,” she said.
