Going from Selangor to Johor

It’s not about personalities, says Yeo

-

MUAR: Her move to Johor should not be seen as DAP sending down “personalities” to the state, said DAP’s Yeo Bee Yin.

“It is not about personalities or Lim Kit Siang, but for me to defend the nation’s institutions,” said the 35-year-old.

Yeo is moving to the Bakri parliamentary seat after serving as a one-term Damansara Utama assemblyman.

She will be replacing two-term Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa.

Yeo’s candidacy was announced by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng at a Pakatan Harapan gathering in Bakri yesterday.

“It will be sort of a homecoming for me as I am a Johorean who was raised in a small rural town in Segamat.

“I will not have a problem moving back as I understand how things are here,” she said.

Lim also announced DAP’s organising secretary Won Yi Hao as the candidate for the Bentayan state seat, replacing current assemblyman Chua Wee Beng.

Yeo’s move to Bakri followed Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong’s move from Kluang to Ayer Hitam.

Liew will face off against incumbent Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who is MCA deputy president.

Later, when met, Liew did not discount the possibility of more DAP stalwarts being moved to contest in Johor.

He said Johor would be among the main battle grounds for Pakatan Harapan.

There has also been talk of DAP Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo taking on MCA’s Datuk Chua Tee Yong in Labis.
