Protest probed under Peaceful Assembly Act

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are now working to trace the organisers of the illegal protest outside Parliament House during the tabling of the redelineation report, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

“My officers are in the process of identifying those responsible, including the protest participants and the organisers. We will call them up and record their statements. We are investigating the matter under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012,” he said here yesterday.

He was speaking to reporters after attending a gathering of Association for Policemen’s Wives (Perkep) members with the Deputy Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis yesterday.

On the redelineation report that was leaked online last week prior to its tabling in Parliament on Wednesday, Mohamad Fuzi said no police report was received on the matter.

On the progress of locating the former husband and youngest child of M. Indira Gandhi, Mohamad Fuzi said the search was still ongoing and appealed to the people to provide information to the police on the matter.

Earlier, during his speech, Mohamad Fuzi said a female senior officer may be appointed to a director’s post in Bukit Aman in the near future.

“We have many female deputy directors, but not a female director in the last few years. That should change.

“I will propose a senior female officer to be appointed soon,” he said, adding that the move is in line with the effort to honour the contributions of female police officers in the Royal Malaysian Police.

In her speech, Hamidah commended the sacrifices of both the female police officers and the wives of policemen.

Mohamad Fuzi and Hamidah later presented financial aid to state and federal Perkep associations in support of their contributions and sacrifices. Datuk Robiah Abdul Ghani was also named “Perkep Icon”.
