China’s investments in projects worth RM22bil

CHINA has invested in 180 projects in the country’s manufacturing industry from 2010 to 2017, said Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong.

The projects brought in investments worth RM22bil, with the highest investments recorded in the base metal products industry, which came to RM9.2bil.

He was replying to a question by Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman (PKRIndera Mahkota) on the total investments made by China in Malaysia and the breakdown of the investments by projects.

He added that the other industries with huge investments were electronic and electrical products at RM5.5bil, non-metallic mineral products at RM4.5bil, and transport equipment at RM1bil.

“The projects are expected to create 38,643 jobs (for Malaysians),” he said.

On the projects approved between China and Malaysia under the Malaysia- China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) in Gebeng, Kuantan, Chua said a number of projects have been approved under the MCKIP.

This included Alliance Steel (M) Sdn Bhd and Ye Chiu Non-Ferrous Metal ( M) Sdn Bhd for the base metal industry, Longi Solar (Kch) Sdn Bhd and Jinko Solar Technology Sdn Bhd for the solar industry and Xiamen University.

“This (high-quality investments) brings in positive impact to the country, especially in creating jobs and business opportunities,” to locals,” he said, adding that investments from Chinese companies have helped promote in the growth of the country’s economy.
