Mahathir hits out at Umno and PAS

-

ALOR SETAR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has hit out at his former party, claiming that it no longer serves its original purpose.

“I admit I was once Umno president, but today I am lambasting the party and I want to see its downfall because the real Umno is dead.

“Umno has deviated far away from its original aims. It no longer exists for the race, religion or country but only for Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,” he said during the Jelajah Pakatan Harapan assembly in Guar Chempedak here yesterday.

Dr Mahathir is now head of Pakatan Harapan that comprises Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, of which he also chairs, PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.

Also present at the event were DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, Pribumi deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Dr Mahathir said PAS is in a similar situation, no longer the party it once was.

On the Election Commission’s redelineation report being passed in Parliament, Dr Mahathir said there is “no longer a Parliament, only a staged drama”.

“Malaysia needs a Parliament where we can debate, discuss and scrutinise laws, but right now for important things like redelineation we are only given two hours.

“What is the point of having a meeting then? Just ask the Speaker to pass it. End of story,” he said.

He also said that by changing the boundaries, the Government could separate the Chinese and Malays, and lump the Malay voters together in certain areas to win their votes.
