Suryani aims to keep gunning down medals at Commonweal­th Games

KUALA LUMPUR: National woman rifle shooter Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi has rarely missed the mark at the Commonweal­th Games.

And she will be out to maintain her status as one of the most cons i s tent medalwinne­rs for Malaysia when she opens her campaign in Gold Coast, Australia, from April 4- 15.

The 35-year-old mother of two has always delivered a medal for Malaysia in the Games.

She has featured in three Games and contribute­d one gold and four bronzes.

Suryani promised to gun down more medals.

“I want to continue contributi­ng for Malaysia in the Games – that’s my goal,” said Suryani.

She made her debut at the 2006 Melbourne Games and won bronze in the women’s 50m rifle three position individual and pairs with Nurul Hudda Baharin.

In 2010 New Delhi, she bagged her first Games gold in the 10m air rifle pairs with Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim and a bronze in the 10m air rifle individual event.

In the last Games in Glasgow in 2014, Suryani delivered shooting’s only medal with a bronze in the 10m air rifle individual.

“My mission in Gold Coast is to post personal bests in all my three rifle events,” said Suryani, who will compete in the 10m air rifle, 50m rifle prone and 50m rifle three position.

Her personal best in the 10m air rifle is 418 points, three position (580) and prone (618).

Suryani, who featured in the 2012 London Olympics when she was eight months pregnant, is expecting stiff challenges from Australia and England.

“In shooting, you get better with age and experience and I aim for another good show,” said Suryani, who won silver in the 50m prone individual event and bronze in the team event at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
