Secret underground drug ‘kitchen’ unearthed in Batu Caves
KUALA LUMPUR: The terrace house in Taman Bukit Idaman, Batu Caves, was renovated with a special room at the back. It was a 10m by 10m room dug underground and turned into a kitchen – where drugs were cooked.
Police uncovered the secret underground lab from which high- quality methamphetamine worth millions of ringgit was produced and moved into the Klang Valley.
The secret “kitchen” was hidden in a hole dug from the floor of a renovated part of the house. Syndicate members manufactured a highly pure form of the drug to be sold at high-end entertainment outlets in the area.
City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said police uncovered the lab after they arrested the mastermind, 40, at a hotel in Jalan Pudu around 5.30pm on Thursday.
“We found several packets of meth and heroin in his possession.
“After questioning him, he led us to the house at 9.30pm. We arrest- ed four more men, aged 30 to 50,” he told a press conference at the city police headquarters yesterday.
Police also seized drugs worth RM1.27mil, mainly freshly processed meth at the scene.
“They had just finished distribut- ing their product in the Klang Valley and what we found was only the leftover. Just imagine how much they must have distributed.
“The meth seized, around 18kg, is also of very high quality and worth around RM70,000 per kg,” he said.
Comm Mazlan said the lab had only been active for about four months before it was detected.
“The five have been remanded until April 5 to assist investigations,” he said.
Police are looking for syndicate members who are still at large.
