SEREMBAN: Housing developers will enjoy a 50% discount in land premium for affordable houses worth RM80,000 per unit in Negri Sembilan.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said his administration has decided to waive half of the fee to reduce the cost for developers, who are now required to ensure 20% of all houses in their projects do not exceed RM80,000.

“The developers are subsidising the construction cost of these homes. On our part, we will help absorb part of the cost by giving them a 50% discount,” he said.

Mohamad said some developers would have the premium reduced from as high as RM500,000 to RM250,000.

Besides 20% of homes at RM80,000, the state government’s new housing policy also requires developers to build 15% of homes that cost less than RM250,000, and another 15% at less than RM400,000.

They are free to fix the price of the remaining units in their projects.

Mohamad said his administration decided to compel developers to build the affordable units due to high demand.

On a separate matter, Mohamad said Dataran Kemang in Port Dickson would be renamed Dataran Veteran ATM (Armed Forces) in recognition of the sacrifices made by the country’s security forces.

“Since Port Dickson is known as the Army Town, we decided to rename Dataran Kemang to remember the sacrifices of our armed forces.

“We are planning to, among others, build a memorial wall at the square which will have the names of the men killed while in service, as well as details of important events in the history of our armed forces,” he added.
