Srikanth hopes to produce his A game

SHUTTLER K. Srikanth only had 10 days of preparation before arriving in Gold Coast for his second Commonwealth Games.

But that won’t stop him from going after the men’s singles title for the first time.

The world No. 2 is determined to snap out of a brief loss of form that saw him crashing out in the early rounds of the All-England, India Open and World Super Series Finals in the last five months.

He has been on fire en route to winning four Superseries titles in Indonesia, Australia, Denmark and France last year.

“I’m dealing with it (the loss of form). Hopefully, I’ll be able to restore my game and confidence here at the Commonwealth Games,” said Srikanth.

“I’ve been focusing on the Games just 10 days ago after the All-England. I’ll be happy if I can bring my A game out here.”

The world No. 2 has to overcome Lee Chong Wei, Rajiv Ouseph of India and his teammate H.S. Prannoy to stand a chance.

He crashed out in the quarter-finals at the last Games in Glasgow 2014 but India still returned home victorious when P. Kashyap emerged as the champion.

Kashyap was India’s third men’s singles winner in the Games after Syed Modi (1982) and Prakash Padukone (1978).

But first, Srikanth will be out to lead the mixed team to a better showing after losing to England in the quarter-finals in Glasgow in 2014.
