DAP undecided on whether to field Boo in Skudai

-

JOHOR BARU: Johor DAP’s Dr Boo Cheng Hau (pic) will know in the next few days if he gets to defend his Skudai state seat, party sources said.

With the Opposition planning an all-out offensive in Johor, the Skudai seat remains one of the most talked about in the state.

The sources said the decision on Skudai will be “expedited”, and that top DAP leaders consider the seat a safe bet for the party.

“The decision will be known in about a week,” said a source.

Last week, Gelang Patah DAP decided that Lim Kit Siang and Dr Boo would defend their Gelang Patah parliamentary and Skudai state seats to secure the “hardwon” territory.

Skudai is one of the two state seats under Gelang Patah.

The resolution was conveyed to the party’s central executive committee and a second resolution was passed at a joint meeting on Tuesday.

DAP plans to move big names to tough constituencies in Johor, which Pakatan Harapan has named a frontline state.

Although Gelang Patah DAP has made its pick, the sources said the final decision will be made by the DAP central executive committee and party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

Dr Boo, who is said to have fallen out with Guan Eng, is reluctant to move from Skudai which he has served for two terms.

The Gelang Patah parliamentary seat has been re-named Iskandar Puteri.

“It is normal in politics that people fall out of favour. But Skudai is a safe seat for DAP,” said a source.
