BENTONG: It will be carnival time soon in Mempaga, one of the Felda settlements in this parliamentary constituency.

The Fiesta NBOS (National Blue Ocean Strategy) Mesra Rakyat on Sunday will feature a fun walk, health checks and talks by various agencies such as SME Corp, the Fire and Rescue Department, National Higher Education Fund Corporation and Road Safety Department.

Banners promoting the event have been put up in Bentong town, featuring photographs of Bentong MP Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

The event will be held at SM Agama Persekutuan Bentong.

More than 100 NBOS initiatives have been implemented since NBOS was introduced in 2009 to address a range of economic and social issues.

These involved ministries, agencies and the private sector, which got together on a voluntary basis to develop initiatives that were of high impact, low cost and rapidly executed.

Examples of NBOS initiatives included Connecting the Unconnected to improve telecommunication facilities in underserved areas and Urban Transformation Centres nationwide.

Fiesta NBOS will introduce and display the results of NBOS.

One of the NBOS initiatives enjoyed by Bentong is being recognised as a “Fresh Air Lung Washing” destination by the Tourism Ministry.

The daylong Mempaga event will see the handover of a RM200,000 allocation from the Tourism Ministry to upgrade facilities at a hot spring in Bentong.

Promoting Bentong as an ecotourism and agrotourism destination has been one of the main agendas of Liow, who saw the potential of the hilly town in providing a respite to harried urbanites.

On Saturday, Liow is also expected to spend time with settlers at Felda Sertik here during a family day event.
