IGCSE exams to carry on as scheduled on May 9
PETALING JAYA: Students will have to sit for the IGCSE examinations on May 9 despite it being a public holiday.
The United Kingdom-based examination, short for International General Certificate in Secondary Education, will be conducted as planned despite May 9 just declared a public holiday.
International schools have confirmed that the examinations will carry on. Taylor’s Schools president B.K. Gan said the dates and times of the exam are set by the UK and not locally.
“It’s set by the UK and is done at the same time across the world even though it’s a holiday in some countries,” he told The Star.
HELP International School said the examinations will continue on polling day.
“We have confirmation from their regional office that the papers and exams scheduled on May 9 will still carry on as scheduled.
“For our school, our expatriate teachers will invigilate, allowing our local staff and teachers to exercise their voting rights,” the school said in a statement.
The school said parents will be informed of the situation, adding that they will understand as the examinations are determined by the UK.
Cambridge Assessment International Education Malaysia’s office has not issued a statement on the matter as of press time.
According to the Cambridge Assessment International Education website, among the exams being conducted on May 9 are English Language and First Language English oral.
