KUALA LUMPUR: The Star has won a place in the annual KhazanahWolfson Press Fellowship programme for the fourth time since the sponsorship began in 2013.

Chief reporter Christina Chin, who was awarded with the fellowship, will spend 10 weeks at Wolfson College, one of the 31 colleges at Cambridge University.

“This is a personal and professional dream come true.

“I’m deeply appreciative of Khazanah for this opportunity, and Star Media Group for allowing me to take time off despite the general election,” she said.

Khazanah Nasional Bhd sponsors two Malaysian journalists and a representative from the government investment arm each year to take part in the programme.

The programme is run by Wolfson College, which selects Malaysian applicants shortlisted by Khazanah.

At a ceremony to present their award letters, Khazanah managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar congratulated this year’s recipients.

To date, Khazanah has sponsored

10 Malaysian journalists with the objective of supporting and developing the media industry.

“This is the sixth year we’re sponsoring the fellowship. We’ve received very good feedback from Wolfson on the quality of our candi-

dates and their project proposals.

“We’re also very pleased that the intention and objectives of this sponsorship is playing out,” he said during the presentation ceremony yesterday.

Also present was Star Media Group editor-in-chief Datuk Leanne Goh.

Two others who were selected are Khazanah communications and external relations unit vice-president Yeow Pooi Ling and Astro Awani anchor and producer Dzulfrizal Zulkapli.

While in Cambridge, participants will be doing research on a topic agreed beforehand.

Chin, who is currently pursuing her doctorate in Universiti Malaya, will be studying e-cigarettes, a “disruptive technology” that can greatly impact an individual’s health, and the country’s healthcare system.

She hopes to improve the reporting of medicine and technology.

The Star journalist Cecilia Kok was awarded the fellowship in 2013, while assistant editors Razak Ahmad and Tan Shiow Chin were selected in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Since it was set up in 1982, the Wolfson Press Fellowship programme has had over 300 press fellows from 50 countries participating.
