Group grateful show restored to its original slot

THE Malaysia Tamil Kappagam association is grateful to RTM for restoring the Vasantham talk show to its original slot on Sundays, Tamil Nesan reported.

Association president Dr S.V. Lingam said the popular weekly programme on TV2 was moved to a new slot on Wednesdays a few weeks ago. After receiving complaints from the community over the switch, representatives from the Kappagam and Malaysia Tamil Manimandram met with RTM chief Datuk Abu Bakar Ab Rahim.

The association reps explained to Abu Bakar that the community preferred the programme to remain on Sundays as it is a holiday and allows families to tune in to discussions on current issues.

> An off-duty policeman in Haryana, India, tried to harass a woman but received a humiliating beating when she turned out to be a state and national-level karate champion, Makkal Osai reported.

Neha Jangre was reportedly travelling home after her daily training session by auto rickshaw when a man boarded the same vehicle. He tried to strike up a conversation and asked for her mobile number. When she refused, he verbally harassed her and tried to get physical with her.

Neha easily overcame him and dragged him to a women’s police station, not knowing the assailant was a policeman as he was in plainclothes.

The officers apparently tried to talk Neha into letting their colleague off the hook, but she took a photo of the man’s ID and eventually got her father involved to get the cops to file charges. The man, identified as Yassin, has been suspended from the force.
