HULU TERENGGANU: Terengganu Barisan Nasional has pledged to reduce toll rates on the second phase of the East Coast Expressway (LPT2) should it win in the general election.

The pledge was part of Barisan’s 20 point manifesto, which was unveiled during Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s one-day visit to the east coast state.

“We will reduce the toll rates on LPT2 up to 50% in stages,” said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman after the launch of the Kuala Berang Barisan election machinery here.

At present, it costs RM43.30 for a Class 1 vehicle to travel from Karak in Pahang to Kuala Terengganu via the LPT2.

The manifesto also includes building the third phase of the East Coast Expressway (LPT3), which extends the existing route from Kuala Terengganu to Kelantan.

Terengganu Barisan also promised to create 40,000 job opportunities as well as build 20,000 units of affordable homes.

In his speech, Dr Ahmad Zahid also hinted that Ahmad Razif could stay on as mentri besar if Barisan wins GE14.

“We hope, with the consent of the Sultan of Terengganu, Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif will continue to lead Terengganu,” he said without elaborating further.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Razif said Barisan will ensure women in the state are empowered and they would start with fielding women candidates in GE14.

He, however, did not reveal the identity of these candidates or where they will be standing.

“We promise we will field women candidates in this election, but wait for the official announcement, he said.

The last time Barisan fielded a female candidate in the state was in 2008 in the 12th general election.
