RM8.5mil drug haul

Police seize a variety of illicit drugs and bust several syndicate in the Klang Valley.

KUALA LUMPUR: Drugs worth RM8.5mil were seized following several raids in the Klang Valley.

Six men and two women, believed to be drug syndicate members, were arrested at an apartment in Old Klang Road, a house in Taman Salak Selatan and Kompleks Bandar Batu 5 between 5.15pm and 5.50pm on April 11.

The raids were conducted by Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigat­ion Department (NCID) and Bukit Aman Special Tactical Intelligen­ce Narcotics Group (STING) after receiving intelligen­ce on the drug syndicate.

Bukit Aman NCID deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Kamarulzam­an Mamat said police seized 167,500 ecstasy pills, 36.3kg of syabu, 6.5kg of cocaine and 6g of ketamine worth a total RM8.5mil.

“We believe the drugs are meant for the local market. We are still investigat­ing where they received the supplies from.

“We believe they have been operating for some time,” he told a press conference at the Brickfield­s police district headquarte­rs yesterday.

“We are investigat­ing whether the mastermind was among those arrested,” he said, adding six vehicles worth RM656,000, including a Toyota Vellfire and Toyota Camry, were also seized.

“We also confiscate­d close to RM5,000 cash and various jewellery items during the raids,” he added.

Between Jan 1 and April 11, the NCID seized RM65.47mil worth of drugs, including 801kg of syabu, one tonne of ganja, 162.3kg of heroin and 30.29kg of ecstasy pills.

“We also arrested 47,389 people for various drug offences, including 2,792 foreigners. Among them are 21,233 who tested positive for consuming drugs, 7,655 for traffickin­g and 18,501 for possession,” he said.

He said 369 people were also arrested under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act while RM22.8mil worth of assets belonging to drug syndicates were seized.
