KUALA LUMPUR:

Unattended garbage and dengue outbreaks in Selangor will be things of the past if Barisan Nasional gets to govern the state after GE14, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

While maintaining that the ongoing Selangor water crisis would be the coalition’s main priority, Najib said the rise in dengue cases and the issue of unattended rubbish would be addressed too.

“We don’t want Selangor to be known as darul sampah or darul dengue,” he said.

“I can guarantee here, as the Prime Minister, that if the Barisan government is given a mandate again for Selangor, all of these issues will be solved by us,” he said in his opening remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Women and Children Complex of the Kajang Hospital yesterday.

Last December, Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) deputy chair- man Datuk Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan revealed that Selangor recorded the highest number of dengue cases nationwide with 44,884 cases.

Najib also took the opportunity to poke fun at the Opposition’s infamous “Kajang Move” in 2014.

He said though Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail won the Kajang by-election, it created a crisis within the state government.

They did not achieve the target of the Kajang move and it also had troubled the people when a by-election was called, the Prime Minister added.

Instead, the real Kajang Move, which was beneficial to the people, Najib said, was the Mass Rapid Transit ( MRT) Sungai BulohKajang line and the announcement of the construction of Kajang Hospital’s Women and Children Complex.

“In fact, I was told that the value of land in Kajang increased since the MRT was launched,” the Prime Minister said.

The “Kajang Move” was a political manoeuvre in which PKR attempted to replace former Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

However, the plan failed with Datuk Seri Azmin Ali ultimately replacing Khalid at the helm of Selangor.

I can guarantee here, as the Prime Minister, that if the Barisan government is given a mandate again for Selangor, all of these issues will be solved by us. Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak
