All set for another face-off in Pahang
Different party, but Saifuddin and Nasrudin will this time battle it out in Indera Mahkota
KUANTAN: Now that he is with PKR, former deputy minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah did not expect to go up against PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan again in the general election.
But then, he is. Saifuddin will contest against Nasrudin – both running as Opposition candidates – for the Indera Mahkota parliamentary seat.
He lost to Nasrudin by 1,070 votes as a Barisan Nasional candidate in Temerloh in the 2013 general election.
“I am coming into this elections as a representative of the people versus Barisan Nasional.
“However, I did not expect to face Nasrudin again.
“It’s a coincidence,” said Saifuddin, who is now Pakatan Harapan secretariat chief, in an interview.
Saifuddin was introduced as the Pakatan coordinator for the Indera Mahkota seat during a dinner here on Friday.
It is understood that appointed Pakatan coordinators would become the chosen candidates for that seats.
Recently, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang announced Nasrudin as its Indera Mahkota candidate.
“It is not official until I receive the letter of endorsement from the party but you can say that I am speculated to contest Indera Mahkota,” said Saifuddin, who quit Umno in 2015.
At the dinner, PKR’s incumbent
Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh was the only one who announced that she would be seeking re-election for a third term.
Fuziah said she was diagnosed
with cancer in 2014 but had since recovered and was ready to serve another term.
“My opponents have been spreading stories about me not being around in Kuantan.
“Actually, I was diagnosed with stage one cancer a year after winning my second term,” said Fuziah during the event.
“Fortunately, it was discovered early and I underwent surgery. After recovering, I returned to serve the people.
“I want to say I have never missed Parliament even though I was sick,” she said, adding that her doctors had given her the “all clear”.
Other PKR state seat coordinators announced during the dinner were Lee Chean Chung (Semambu), Sim Chon Siang (Teruntum), Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman ( Sungai Lembing), Kamarzaman Mohamed Yunus (Panching) and Fakhrul Anuar Zulkawi (Inderapura).
Mohd Yazid Mohd Yunus was also named as Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia coordinator for the Paya Besar parliamentary seat.
