Kedah interim coach Nidzam surprised by thumping of Selangor

PETALING JAYA: Kedah interim head coach Nidzam Adzha Yusof “was left in awe” with his charges after their resounding 4-0 home victory against Selangor in the Super League.

Brazilian import Sandro Da Silva (pic) bagged a brace while Syazwan Zainon and Akram Mahinan also got themselves into the scoresheets to ensure Nidzam passed his first test with flying colours on Friday night.

Nidzam had been promoted by the Red Eagles a fortnight ago to replace Spaniard Ramon Marcote, who was “rested” following a dismal run.

The players clearly enjoyed playing under the 50-year-old’s charge by putting up a conquering display at the Darulaman Stadium.

“I was in awe with my players, all of them played exceptionally well,” said Nidzam.

“It was a lively performance. Our game plan was well executed and I believe that’s the key to our win.

“We even played without our key player Liridon (Krasniqi, serving a two-match suspension), and that’s what pleased me the most because we showed that we have a good depth in the squad.”

Nidzam admitted he was surprised at the scoreline.

“All I wanted from the team was to collect the three points but they gave more.”

Selangor’s coach Nazliazmi Mohd Nasir claimed he is to be blamed as the defeat saw the Red Giants slipped to 10th – just two points above the relegation zone.

“Our plan didn’t work out and we performed below par. I’m responsible for the loss,” said Nazliazmi.

“I’ll not blame my players because up and downs are bound to happen.

“We got to move on quickly as we have a big match coming up against Kuala Lumpur (in the FA Cup quarter-final second leg) next week.

“My job is to keep the team morale in check and make sure they head into the next match in the best conditions.”
