Golden girls Emma and Siti ready to conquer the world

-

LAWN bowls golden girls Emma Firyana Saroji and Siti Zalina Ahmad have the ability to conquer the world.

And national coach Simon Botha has no plans to separate them.

“They have proven to be the best women’s pair in the Commonwealth Games. The standard is as high as the world championships,” said Botha, who has been coaching the pair since May of 2016.

“They showed tremendous fighting spirit and determination in final.

“They have what it takes to beat any top pairs in the world.”

The 76-year-old South African coach will prepare them to win more honours for Malaysia.

Emma and Siti made a dramatic comeback when they bounced back from 3-12 down to beat defending champions Nicolene Neal and Colleen Piketh of South Africa 15-14 in the final on Friday.

The duo will return to Gold Coast in June to feature in the Australian Open Championships from June 9-22.

They will compete in the Wales 12 Nations Championships in Cardiff from July 6-14.

They will also compete at this year’s Asia Pacific Championships in Kuala Lumpur from Sept 23-30 and the Champions of the Champions in Australia in New South Wales from Oct 29-Nov 4.

The 38-year-old Siti said they would ride on the momentum to be consistent in all the tournaments.

“Our coach Simon is like a father figure to us. We’ll continue to live up to his expectations by being the best players in the world,” said Siti, who previously won two gold medals in the singles event at Commonwealth Games.
