BUKIT MERTAJAM: The family of Indonesian maid Adelina Lisao, who slept in the porch with the family dog and died shortly after being rescued, received the backpay owed to her.

Indonesian Consul-General Iwanshah Wibisono said Adelina’s employer gave her next of kin RM69,300, which is understood to be her entire salary since she started work in December 2014.

“I hope the case can be settled soon to ensure justice is served,” Iwanshah said outside the courtroom yesterday.

He was present for the mention of the murder charge against S. Ambika, 59, in a magistrate’s court.

The woman is charged with murdering Adelina at a house in Medan Kota Permai 2, Taman Kota Permai, at 5pm on Feb 10.

Magistrate Dianne Ningrad Nor Azahar fixed May 28 for the next mention, pending the pathology report.

The court was told by deputy public prosecutor Hamzah Azhan that they were still waiting for the report.

Ambika is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death sentence, upon conviction.

Adelina died at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital on Feb 11 after being rescued a day earlier from Ambika’s home, where she was found sleeping on the porch with a Rottweiler.

Adelina had wounds on her body, and a post-mortem put the cause of death as multiple organ failures due to anaemia.
