PETALING JAYA: A group of PKR members aren’t happy that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamd is standing under the party’s logo in the general election. They showed their displeasure at a gathering in front of the party’s headquarters.

The group held banners and posters urging the PKR leadership to not allow the Pakatan Harapan chairman to use the party’s logo.

On some of the banners were: “Tun Mahathir musuh sebenar PKR”

(Tun Mahathir is PKR’s true enemy), “PKR jangan jadi pelacur Tun Mahathir” (PKR don’t be Tun Mahathir’s prostitute) and “PKR jangan khianat pejuang tulin keadilan”

(PKR don’t betray the true fighters of justice).

Bukit Gantang PKR Youth chief Muhamad Faisal Zainal, who claimed to represent grassroots members across the country, said they were disappointed that the former premier was standing in the polls under their party logo.

“We demand that he (Dr Mahathir) is prohibited from using PKR’s logo. We are giving the leadership until Thursday to do so.

“If not, we have already planned a few actions that will be announced later,” Muhamad Faisal told reporters.

He called on party members to remember that the party was formed to fight against Dr Mahathir’s “tyrannical” rule back then.

“Allowing him to use the party’s logo, as well as nominating him as the candidate for prime minister, is not only wrong but it also goes against our principles.

“We admit that the country needs a change in government but not a change resulting in a former dictator whom we used to call “Maha Firaun” returning to power,” he said.

Among those who attended the gathering was Sabak Bernam PKR member M. Veerapan.

The crowd gathered peacefully for about 30 minutes before dispers- ing. There was also minimal police presence.

Earlier this month, Dr Mahathir announced that parties under the Opposition pact, including the temporarily disbanded Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, would contest under the PKR logo.

All four Opposition parties – Pribumi, PKR, DAP and Amanah – would unite under one logo in GE14, said Dr Mahathir.

Pribumi members, said Dr Mahathir, would, however, not be joining the other component parties in Pakatan following the disbandment notice issued by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

The RoS had previously ordered Pribumi to temporarily disband for 30 days as it had failed to fulfil the body’s Feb 28 notice requesting for documents and details of the party.

This means that Pribumi will not be allowed to use its logo or conduct any party activity during its disbandment with immediate effect.
