Deputy vice-chancellors appointed
TWO new deputy vice-chancellors have been appointed at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
They are Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Marzuki Mustafa as deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International Affairs) at UKM and Prof Dr Zulkifli Idrus as deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation) at UPM respectively.
Both will serve for a three-year term until April 2021.
Prof Mohd Marzuki takes over from Prof Datuk Dr Riza Atiq Abdullah OK Rahmat, whose term ended in January this year.
Prof Zulkifli replaces Prof Datuk Dr Husaini Omar who has been appointed Universiti Malaysia Kelantan vice-chancellor as of Jan 1 this year.
Prof Mohd Marzuki has previously served as pro vice-chancellor (Strategy and Corporate Development) as well as Executive Strategy Centre director.
He obtained first class honours in his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tasmania, a Master’s in Science from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and a PhD from the University of Salford.
UKM vice-chancellor Prof Tan Sri Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali said being appointed as a deputy vice-chancellor is a serious responsibility.
“Those who are chosen must lead the university forward,” he said at the hand over of duties from Prof Riza to Prof Mohd Marzuki.
Prof Zulkifli obtained the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master’s degree in poultry science from UPM.
He subsequently obtained his PhD in poultry science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the United States. Prof Zulkifli has been the Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security director since 2010.
