KIMANIS: The people of Sabah have been given the assurance that the state will enjoy progress and prosperity under Barisan Nasional, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said only Barisan could ensure the continuity of development and take care of the people, not only in Sabah and Sarawak but also nationwide.

He also said the rights of Sabahans under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 will be looked into by a special committee led by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

“We in Barisan Nasional are committed to giving back what belongs to Sabahans, if any was taken away.

“Barisan is the only party that can take care of Sabah’s needs and this is also why the MA63 is included in our Barisan manifesto,” Dr Ahmad Zahid said during a meet-the-people programme in Bongawan, some 75km from here yesterday.

He also called on Anifah, the incumbent MP for Kimanis, and the two Barisan state assemblymen in the parliamentary seat to work hard to gain bigger majorities in the elections.

The incumbent assemblymen for Bongawan and Membakut state seats are Umno’s Datuk Mohamad Alamin and Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.

It is learnt that Datuk Karim Bujang of Parti Warisan Sabah is slated to take on Anifah for the Kimanis seat.

Karim, a former Bongawan assemblyman and ex-Sabah Barisan secretary, joined Warisan a few weeks ago.

Anifah said he is unfazed by the Opposition’s candidate, saying that the voters know that only Barisan can provide progress for the people.
