Kit Siang and Teoh wrestle for Iskandar Puteri seat

-

JOHOR BARU: There is a wide 28-year age gap between them. Will their tussle for Johor’s biggest parliamentary seat be closer?

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, 77, will take on Gelang Patah MCA chief Datuk Jason Teoh, 49, for the Iskandar Puteri seat, previously known as Gelang Patah.

The constituency has 138,000 voters, making it the largest in the state.

The confirmation came on Sunday night when Kit Siang’s candidacy was announced during a dinner gathering in Skudai.

In the 2013 general election, he defeated then Johor mentri besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.

“I am waiting for a tsunami to happen in the rural areas, similar to what happened in the urban areas in GE13.

“I also want to see a tsunami of women voters coming out to vote for Pakatan Harapan,” he added.

In his speech, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng told supporters that recent opposition gatherings in Pasir Gudang, Pagoh and Muar had attracted people from rural areas.

“It is no longer just a wave in urban areas, as it has reached rural areas as well,” he said.

He also defended DAP’s decision to swap candidates for certain seats.

He praised Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming and Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong, who will contest respectively in the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat and the Ayer Hitam seat.

“They have taken the ultimate challenge to fight,” he said.

DAP is contesting six parliamentary and 14 state seats in Johor.
