10 karters prove that they can be young and fast too

PETALING JAYA: Ten new karters have been picked to receive full sponsorshi­p from Sepang Internatio­nal Circuit (SIC) to compete in the SIC X30 National Karting Series.

They were selected among 20 drivers, aged between eight and 12, who competed in the SIC X30 shootout over the weekend.

The drivers were selected after a two-day trial under the supervisio­n of SIC head of four wheels talent developmen­t Alex Yoong.

The talented drivers are Putera Alex Qiefli Esam, Putera Haikal Hakeem Halim, Aldrin Jiacheng Foo Cabiles, Putera Hani Imran Halim, Raja Ariff Raja Azmi, Sophia Zara Mustaffa Kamal, Nurul Auni Nasharuddi­n, Ahmad Mikhael Ahmad Shareza, Adam Harris Jeffry and Hendra Ade Putra Niko Ode Priyanto.

SIC chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali was pleased with the talent on show at the SIC Internatio­nal Kart Circuit.

“We are excited with our efforts in unearthing raw young talents in the go-kart scene. This reinforces SIC’s commitment in four wheels motor- sport developmen­t.

“Under the guidance of Alex, we hope these young kids can be competitiv­e in their rookie season and progress further to the highest level,” he said.

Alex, a former Formula 1 driver and founder of Axle Motorsport, added: “It’s always difficult to assess the potential of a driver within two days but I was very happy with their attitude throughout the shootout.

“I have a good feeling that we have some serious talent here. It went very well, the drivers did really well and they spent a lot of time on track in the race-prepared karts,” said Alex.

All of the drivers participat­ing were rookies to national level karting in 2018.

They will compete in the Rookie category in the SIC X30 National Karting Series.
