PKR drops Surendran from Padang Serai

-

PETALING JAYA: PKR central executive committee member and lawyer N. Surendran will not be defending his Padang Serai parliamentary seat, and will be benched in the 14th General Election.

Replacing the former PKR vice-president is the party’s Padang Serai division chief M. Karupaiya, according to PKR’s full candidate list for Peninsular Malaysia.

When contacted, Surendran declined to comment.

Other PKR MPs dropped are Telok Kemang (now known as Port Dickson) MP Datuk Kamarul Baharin Abbas, Batu Pahat MP Datuk Mohd Idris Jusi and Wangsa Maju MP Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong.

PKR will field newcomer Rosman Jonet, Penang deputy chief minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon and Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew respectively in the three seats.

Several MPs will not be defending their parliamentary seats but will instead take on state seats.

Alor Setar MP Gooi Hsiao Leung will now be fielded in Bukit Tengah in Penang; Kapar MP G. Manivannan in Hutan Melintang, Perak; Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian in Kajang, Selangor; and Lumut MP Mohamad Imran Abdul Hamid in Bukit Chandan, Perak.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua, will be defending his Batu parliamentary seat.

PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will be leaving her Permatang Pauh seat in Penang to contest Pandan in Selangor.

The move paves the way for party vice-president Nurul Izzah, an incumbent Lembah Pantai MP, to contest in Permatang Pauh.

Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar will leave Tumpat (Kelantan) to contest in Bandar Tun Razak while PKR youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad will contest in Setiawangsa.
