Pahang Barisan yet to reveal list of candidates

-

KUANTAN: Pahang Barisan Nasional is still keeping its candidate list under wraps despite the nomination day drawing near.

Earlier, it was said that Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob would announce the names either on Monday or yesterday. But that did not happen.

Even potential state Barisan candidates are in the dark over when the announcement will be made.

“I haven’t been summoned to receive my letter of endorsement. The talk now is the announcement will be made on Thursday,” said a candidate.

In a short text message to The Star, Adnan said the announcement date has not been decided.

“Not decided when to announce. Adjusting the diary. Will let you know.”

Previously, the Mentri Besar said most of the state’s Barisan incumbents would be retained but there would be three new candidates.

It was understood that the new candidates would be fielded for the Paya Besar parliamentary seat and Lepar state seat, as both incumbents for the two seats had passed away.

DAP was the earliest to reveal its candidates for the state, followed by Parti Amanah Negara, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, PAS and PKR.

Parti Sosialis Malaysia had also announced that it would field two candidates in Pahang.

The elections in Pahang this time will see hot fights in Kuantan, Indera Mahkota and Temerloh.

Barisan will attempt to recapture the three parliamentary seats.

It is also facing multi-cornered fights with Pakatan Harapan and PAS.

A three-cornered match will happen in Bentong, with MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai taking on DAP’s Wong Tack and PAS Supporters’ Club chairman N. Balasubramaniam.
