Insure campaign workers, parties told
KUALA LUMPUR: Political parties must ensure those employed during campaigning are adequately insured, said Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) chairman was responding to Sunday’s incident where four men were injured after coming in contact with a high voltage wire while putting up political party flags in Kampung Parit Yusof, Muar.
“All political parties involved in campaigning should care for the safety of their workers and ensure they are insured.
“It is very important for good occupational safety and health practices to be followed.
“In the event a mishap happens, the workers can receive insurance coverage,” Lee told reporters after launching Gamuda Berhad’s Safety at School programme at SK Pulau Meranti.
He urged those involved in the campaigning not to place their lives in danger and to take precautions when carrying out their tasks.
The loss of lives and limbs are unnecessary, he added.
