Putting the lives of others at risk

- MOHD FAIZAL ABDULLAH Kuala Lumpur

I WAS at a traffic light junction the other day and was just about to turn to my right after the light had turned green when a motorcyclist whizzed past in front of my car. He was coming from the left where the traffic light was red. He had a pillion passenger, a girl of about eight years of age.

She looked back as if to see whether any of the other motorcyclists on the same lane were following them. But no, it was just them.

I assumed the motorcyclist was her father who seemed rather impatient to be on his way and thought that beating the red light would be just fine.

I am sure the pillion passenger must have wondered why her father did not bother to wait for the light to turn green.

Had an accident occurred, she would have suffered the most as she was not wearing a crash helmet.

We all know that the majority of motorcyclists are fond of beating the red light but they should not do it at the expense of their pillion passengers. If they want to take risks, then they should do so when they are riding alone.

The said errant motorcyclist has also set a bad example for his daughter by beating the red light and not respecting the law.

Hopefully, when she grows up and is licensed to drive or ride, she herself would observe the highway code which would be taught to her by her driving school instructor.
