Nomination day is about 24 hours away and while the candidates prepare themselves for their big day, here are some pointers on what goes on during the day.

Between 9am and 10am, candidates submit their nomination forms. The candidate, his or her proposer or seconder, can submit the nomination form.

A statutory declaratio­n form must also be submitted.

A deposit of RM10,000 for Parliament and RM5,000 for state seats must be paid by candidates.

Forms are checked by the returning officer to ensure they are complete and the candidates are eligible to contest.

At 10am, the returning officer will announce the names of eligible candidates. Objection period has been abolished.

An eligible candidate wins unopposed if no one else contests in the area. The declaratio­n will be done by the returning officer. Using any musical instrument­s or loudspeake­rs or putting them on any animals, cars, lorries or other vehicles for the purpose of political propaganda is not allowed under Section 24A of the Election Offences Act 1954. Party supporters are not allowed to gather less than 50m from the nomination centre as it is off-limits.
