KUALA LUMPUR: Wangsa Maju Umno has pledged to support Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look and will rally supporters to march to the nomination centre today.

Wangsa Maju Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafei Abdullah said they would march from the party’s service centre to SMK Wangsa Melawati’s school hall.

“I have rested for two weeks after knowing MCA was picked to contest here, and this is the first programme we have had since for Barisan,” he said during the launch of the Pertubuhan Nadi Rakyat Malaysia operations centre at Danau Kota, Kuala Lumpur.

Although he was not picked to contest, Mohd Shafei said he would continue to serve the community.

“I had met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, and he asked me to help with the election machinery to fight for Barisan,

“We will cooperate and campaign together for Barisan,” he said.

Mohd Shafei said the expected three-cornered fight in Wangsa Maju would be tough but he believes Barisan has a high chance of winning.

Yew, who is Wangsa Maju MCA chairman, will take on PKR treasurer-general Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew and Kuala Selangor PAS committee member Razali Tumiran.

“Most importantly now, we need to meet the rakyat and touch the hearts of the people,” said Mohd Shafei.

When contacted, Yew said he welcomed Mohd Shafei’s help with the campaign.

“We will be stronger if we work together under the Barisan spirit.

“Most importantly, we want to make sure Barisan can win the seat,” he said.

A large group of residents came to the launch.

A total of RM300,000 was also contributed to the Sri Ayyanareeswarar Temple located at Jalan Genting Klang during the event.
