Johor cops probing 23 cases related to polls

JOHOR BARU: Police are investigat­ing 23 cases involving various offences during the first six days of campaignin­g in Johor.

State police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said two individual­s were arrested in Johor Baru (north) and Batu Pahat for causing hurt.

“We received 88 reports so far, but only 23 are being investigat­ed by the police.

“The remaining 65 cases have been forwarded to other agencies that have jurisdicti­on on the matter,” Comm Mohd Khalil said when met after casting his vote at Johor police headquarte­rs here yesterday.

He said three cases were being investigat­ed under the Domestic Flight Rules for flying drones without a licence, one case involved causing mischief by fire, five cases under the Anti-Fake News Act and four other cases for causing mischief.

He said three cases were being investigat­ed under Section 24B (10) of the Election Act for holding a ceramah without a permit.

He said investigat­ions were being carried out on two cases of suspected abuse of social media. Other cases involved causing hurt, issuing threats and falsifying documents.

In Kota Kinabalu, Sabah police commission­er Datuk Ramli Din said as of yesterday, police have opened 29 Investigat­ion Papers on cheating, slander, fake news and treason.
