SUNGAI SIPUT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants a 30 victory in Sungai Siput come May 9.

He said currently, both the Sungai Siput parliament and the Jalong state seats were being held by the Opposition while only the Lintang state seat was under Barisan Nasional.

“So, all this while, it has always been 12 but this time, we not only want to win two seats but all the three seats,” he told the crowd during the Hebatkan Negaraku programme at the Sungai Siput convention hall here yesterday.

PSM’s Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj is the incumbent MP for Sungai Siput for two terms while the Jalong state seat is held by DAP’s Loh Sze Yee.

However, this time around, Dr Jeyakumar, who previously contested under the PKR ticket, will face a fourway fight against Barisan’s SK Devamany, PKR’s S. Kesavan and PAS’ Dr Ishak Ibrahim.

Telling the crowd that the Opposition had not provided anything for the people in Sungai Siput, Najib assured them that they would see development if Barisan was given the mandate.

“I am announcing several projects for the constituency and more announcements will follow on May 9 when Barisan captures Sungai Siput.

“There is something for all the races in Sungai Siput, including the orang asli,” he said.

Najib said among others, SMK Bawong, an orang asli school, would be upgraded to a full boarding school – the first in the country – and some 500 units of the People’s Housing Project would be built.

Barisan, said Najib, needed the political power to provide the people with the best.

“I hope that on May 9, Barisan’s flag will proudly fly in Sungai Siput. After 10 years, it is time for Barisan to take over the parliamentary seat,” he said.

Commenting on the turnout for the event, Najib said it was made up of people from the constituency, accusing the Opposition of “importing” the crowd to their ceramah.
