Chong: Be wary of their tactics

MCA Youth chief says Opposition will resort to ‘sympathy’ to win

SEREMBAN: Barisan Nasional candidates should be wary of the Opposition’s tactics in the last few days of campaigning, said MCA Youth chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

Chong said some Opposition candidates might claim that their support was lacking when in actual fact, they could be leading in the polls.

“They just want to use this tactic to fish for more votes,” he told reporters after a walkabout at Pasar Besar Seremban with other MCA candidates here yesterday.

“MCA and Barisan candidates should be prepared to defend and explain should there be such tactics, especially in the ‘last golden 48 hours’,” said Chong, who is running for the Seremban parliament seat.

Chong said he also hoped that Pasar Seremban could regain its glory.

“It is a place where many people want to go for good food. We hope that this can be a popular spot for tourists, too,” he said, adding that the rebuilding of the market, which was destroyed in a fire last year, was expected to be completed by the end of the year.

MCA, said Chong, has been quick to help the hawkers and business owners here after the fire, with funds that he raised as well as those from the party’s Crisis Relief Squad.

“In total, the financial assistance was near to RM500,000. We have also been closely following up on the rebuilding work,” he said.

The top floor of the two-storey Seremban wet market was destroyed in a massive fire in September last year.

Reconstruction work is ongoing.
