FB launches ‘Queen America’ in race for original content
nEw York: British Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones (pic) will star in the dark comedy
Queen America, the first majorj series pro-p duced by Facebook, wwhich is seeking a foothold in the uber-commpetitive market for original content.
The sultry 48-year-old actress, who took home an Oscar inn 2003 for Chicago, confirmed her jump too the small screen – fittingly – in a Faccebook post. The news was first reporrted by Hollywood industry outlet Deadliine.
“So excited about my next project!” wrote Zeta-Jonees. “I think you’re going to love itt!”

Ellis, who is in highh demand from girls and womeen hoping to be the next Miss Americaa. The 10 half-hour episodes will debut on Facebook’s relatively new video platform Watch,, according to Deadline. In Sepptember, Facebook debuted Stranngers. Then in late April, it launcheed Skam Austin, an adaptationn of a Norwegian programmme. It also has ordered a half-hhour dramedy series starring UUS actress Elizabeth Olsen. But snapping up Zeta-Jones – wwho is also a Tony winner foor A Little Night Music – iindicates a turning point for the world’s largest social network in its efforts to offer original content to its two billion users.
