Nitithorn becomes latest Thai sensation to win on ADT

-

PETALING JAYA: Nitithorn Thippong has joined the long list of Thai winners on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) after winning the PGM Penang Championship for his maiden professional win.

The 21-year-old became the 27th winner from the Land of Smiles after firing a three-under 69 to win by two strokes from overnight leader Miguel Carballo of Argentina at the Bukit Jawi Golf Resort yesterday.

Starting the day one shot off the pace, Nitithorn bagged four birdies against a sole bogey to end the tournament with a four-day total of 15-under 273.

Former US PGA Tour player Carballo could only shoot an even-par 72 after trad-

ing four birdies against as many bogeys, including in his two final holes, to settle for joint second with Kokocinski – who closed with a 69.

Nitithorn was over the moon with the deserving victory earned after consistently registering three top-10 finishes this year.

“I can’t describe my feeling right now. I’ve had excellent shots during the entire round and I’m thrilled to get my first victory outside my home country and on the ADT,” said Nitithorn.

“I know that Miguel (Carballo) is a very good and experienced player as he has played on the PGA Tour, so I felt a little bit of pressure playing alongside him.

“I worked out some strategies with my coach, kept my composure and focused on my game.

“I’m glad that everything worked out!” he added.

Former ADT winner Wilson Choo was the best-placed Malaysian in tied 10th.

He shot a 70 to finish on nine-under 279.
