THE University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Women’s Development Department, under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry. The signing was held at Pinewood Studios in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

It was held concurrently with Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim’s Dialogue Session.

The MoU was signed by the University of Reading Malaysia’s provost and chief executive officer Prof Tony Downes and Women’s Development Department director-general Datuk Yatimah Sarjiman. Rohani witnessed the signing event. The objective of the MoU is to encourage and promote co-operation and collaboration between the UoRM and Women’s Development Department in areas such as professional development, education, economy, health and well-being and safety and law.

The ministry had launched Tahun Memperkasa Wanita 2018 (TMW18). This is a national initiative, to empower and drive women into the 4th industrial revolution with focused preparation.

“The university is excited and looks forward to the collaboration with the Women’s Development Department particularly in the five areas in the strategic clusters in the TMW18 (health, safety, economy, culture and education) which our MoU focuses on. This is also part of our social responsibility towards the community.

“Our planning with the department includes organising workshops and talks delivered by our Henley Business School Malaysia, one of the best business schools on business and entrepreneurship,” said Prof Downes during the event.

Apart from that, he said the School of Psychology & Clinical Language Sciences will contribute in giving seminars on psychology and the wellbeing of women in the workforce.

“We will also jointly organise events to promote health, safety, economy and education for empowering women, family and the community, which is aligned with the

TMW18 objective.” he said.

The Johor Women’s Development Department director Mohamad Ali Taib said: “We are delighted with the collaboration.”

He was confident that the UoRM, which is ranked in the top 200 universities in the world, will bring positive outcomes from the MoU.
