PEKAN: As polling day draws near, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has returned to his constituency here to shore up support from Felda settlers.

At a meeting at Felda Chini here, Najib told them not to believe the lies and slander against Barisan Nasional’s leaders being spread on social media.

“A newspaper report quoted a Malay man working in DAP’s publicity bureau, who said he could not stand spreading slander anymore.

“That was what he was ordered to do. Such lies are planned to destroy the country’s leadership,” Najib said at the gathering here yesterday.

He said since DAP had told the people that voting for PKR was the same as voting for DAP, this meant giving power to DAP.

“So, I want to ask whether DAP loves Felda? Can DAP be trusted to fight for the bumiputra agenda? What will happen to Universiti Teknologi Mara and Felda in the future when they do not hold such interests in their hearts?

“If I am given the mandate to continue my leadership, I will continue fighting for the welfare of the Felda folk,” he added.

Najib also lambasted Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Maha thir Mohamad for using the departed as political material.

“Dr Mahathir tried to visit Datuk Nik Aziz’s grave. His family had the graveyard locked, refusing to let him in.

“If he is sincere, why didn’t he visit the grave before this? And why couldn’t he wait until after the election?” asked Najib.

He added that Dr Mahathir used to criticise Nik Aziz and insulted the families of those killed in the Memali incident by calling their deaths mati katak (dying in vain).

“The families of the victims were angered by Dr Mahathir’s remark. That’s why he tried to visit Nik Aziz’s grave,” he said.

Later at another event in Lepar, Najib asked the people not to reverse course on the country’s development.

He said the Opposition would cancel Malaysia’s contract with China on the East Coast Rail Link if it were to win the general election.

“The project will boost development of the east coast states, create new growth centres, breathe new life into small towns and create 86,000 jobs for Malaysians,” he said.

Cancelling the project could also see China halting its purchase of Malaysian palm oil, he added.

On 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M), Najib said only the Barisan government could provide such a form of aid to the people.
