KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has asked Sabahans to give a strong mandate to Barisan Nasional, promising to honour the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and continue its development of the state.

“Barisan needs a strong mandate to carry out the plans already laid out. Don’t make a mistake, your future lies with Barisan.

“I want you to decide on May 9 because I have big plans for Sabah,” he said to a large gathering at the Kadazandusun Cultural Association Sabah (KDCA) here.

With Najib were Barisan candidates Ceaser Mandela Malakun for the Penampang parliamentary seat, Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin (Moyog state seat) and Datuk Francis Goh (Kapayan state seat).

He also told Sabahans that Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal’s battle cry of “Sabah for Sabahans” was not credible.

He pointed out that many Sabahans were top government officials and that the Barisan government was reaching the target of 90% Sabahan teachers in the state.

He said it was ridiculous that the Opposition’s prime ministerdesignate, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, did not even appear in Sabah during the campaigning period.

“He wants to become the prime minister again after 22 years in power, but the weird thing is that he didn’t even campaign one day in Sabah.

“If Sabahans don’t like him, reject him and support Barisan,” said Najib as he kicked off the second campaign push into Sabah within the span of a week.

He also said Dr Mahathir would never be fair to Sabahans, and described the Opposition as sleeping in the same bed but having different dreams.

“Can a 93yearold man lead Malaysia into the future?

“I want the people to decide who is the best to be the prime minister,” he said.

Najib added that Barisan would bring a raft of development to the area if it wrested back the Penampang parliamentary seat along with the Moyog and Kapayan state seats.

“I want a strong mandate for Barisan to help Sabah. So, please give me Penampang,” said Najib, who also approved the RM300mil Moyog River basin flood mitigation project to curb the frequent floods in Penampang.
