Different location, same old habits for Dr M

LANGKAWI: Old habits seem to die hard for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who will be back here before polling day – just as he used to do in his days as Kubang Pasu MP.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman will arrive this morning for a packed schedule of walkabouts, kenduri and meetthepeople sessions.

His “big” finale will be a speech at 10pm in Dewan Ho Peng, Kuah, which will be broadcast live on social media.

When he led Barisan Nasional, he would finish his election campaign in Kubang Pasu, where he was MP from 1974 to 2004.

This time around, he is contesting in the Langkawi parliamentary constituency under Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and faces a threecornered fight against Barisan incumbent Datuk Nawawi Ahmad and PAS candidate Zubir Ahmad.

This constituency was created in 1995 and Barisan has won every time, with a majority of about 70%.

Among the items on Dr Mahathir’s itinerary in the last 48 hours before polling are a visit to Pulau Tuba today to attend a kenduri with the people.

He will then hold a ceramah tonight in Bukit Malut.

Tomorrow morning, he will attend the Pakatan women’s wing gathering of retirees, single mothers and senior citizens in Ayer Hangat, followed by a meetthepeople session in Wang Tok Rendong.

He will be voting in Titi Gajah, near Alor Setar, and will leave Langkawi on the morning of polling day to vote.

He is expected to await election results in the Klang Valley.
