DPM sings praises of Chong
He has done well, it’s time for him to move up, says Zahid
SEREMBAN: He has all the qualities to become a full Cabinet Minister and is capable of leading MCA in the future, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
In giving a five-star endorsement to Datuk Chong Sin Woon, the Deputy Prime Minister said he had been observing him since his appointment as Deputy Education Minister.
“I have been hearing talk that Ah Chong entered Parliament through the back door.
“But I have personally seen him fielding questions from MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.
“To me, Ah Chong is not only remarkably brave for taking on the incumbent here but is one of our high-performing and finest deputy ministers,” said Dr Ahmad Zahid to applause during a meet-the-people session at Taman Dusun Nyiur here.
Chong is facing incumbent DAP MP Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Sharifuddin Ahmad of PAS.
Dr Ahmad Zahid urged the voters to back Ah Chong, whom he described as a “better candidate” than Pakatan Harapan’s.
“Give Ah Chong your full support so that he can enter Dewan Rakyat via the front door this time. I am confident he would be a good MP and serve the people well, irrespective of race and religion,” he said.
“We should not let Ah Chong fight this battle alone. Give him all the support he needs so that we can wrest back Seremban, as well as some other state seats,” he added.
Dr Ahmad Zahid also pledged to set aside more allocations for Seremban if Ah Chong was elected.
He also called upon all Barisan members to work together towards winning the seat and put aside any differences.
On his campaigning stops nationwide, Dr Ahmad Zahid said the show of support from the people had been “extraordinary”.
“Wherever I go, I see a sea of blue with many people wearing our colours.
“If we can continue with this momentum, I am confident we can do well, especially in Negri Sembilan,” he said.
Dr Ahmad Zahid also approved a request from Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to build a mosque in Taman Warisan Puteri.
In the last elections, Barisan won 22 of the 36 state seats and five of the eight parliamentary constituencies in the state.
