Rais attends but does not speak at Pakatan rally

-

TITI: Umno veteran Tan Sri Rais Yatim attended a Pakatan Harapan rally here, but did not speak or campaign for the Opposition coalition.

Rais was expected to address the crowd with local residents waiting to hear what he had to say. However, they left disappointed.

Rais later told reporters he did not speak at the ceramah because he was not a candidate.

“I am not included in their (Opposition’s police) permit,” he added.

Asked if he would be touring nationwide to campaign for Pakatan, Rais said he would focus on Negri Sembilan as time was limited.

However, his former Cabinet ministers Tun Daim Zainuddin and Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz spoke at Pakatan Harapan’s ceramahs.

Over the weekend, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that the memberships of Daim and Rafidah had been revoked while Rais was under investigation.

Tengku Adnan said Daim and Rafidah were sacked for campaigning for the Opposition, which he said was against the party’s constitution and code of ethics.

“They are aware of this and they know what is coming. We believe in the concept of walak (loyalty) which means you listen to your leader,” he added.

Tengku Adnan said Umno and Barisan Nasional had given Daim and Rafidah numerous opportunities.

“So how can you back-stab us?” he asked.

Dr Rais, on the other hand, had yet to be heard at ceramahs but had been vocal about Umno on social media recently.
