Maria races against the clock to meet voters

-

PETALING JAYA: Petaling Jaya parliamentary candidate Maria Chin Abdullah says she is fighting against time to cover her vast constituency.

“I will do my best to reach out to as many people as possible through my walkabouts and social media,” she said yesterday.

Maria said as Petaling Jaya had become a very large constituency with 140,920 voters after the redelineation exercise, there was “a lot to do” with the added pressure of time running out before the polls.

“The next 48 hours is very crucial. I will continue doing what I have been doing which is to connect with the constituents,” said the former Bersih 2.0 chairman.

Since quitting the post, Maria said her experience dabbling in politics so far has been “positive”.

“There isn’t a big difference between the two (politics and civil society movement) because I feel like I am still fighting for the same cause,” she said.

“Politics is just another way for me to work towards strengthening democratic reforms.”

Asked what she would do if she were elected as an MP, Maria said she would start on her five-point manifesto launched last week.

The constituency will see a threeway fight involving Maria, Barisan Nasional’s Chew Hian Tat and PAS’ Noraini Hussin.
