Confusing statements on renewal of BR1M application

-

ACCORDING to the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM), BR1M recipients must renew their application and update their status annually “A must to apply for BR1M yearly” (The Star, April 23).

This, however, contradicts the information in the BR1M 2018 pamphlet sent to recipients in November 2017, which states that they are required to update their personal information at least once every three years or when there is a change in their personal information, which can be done once a year.

Before 2017, it has always been a dilemma as to whether to update the personal information every year even though there were no changes in the information. The BR1M 2018 pamphlet has made it very clear but the letter from IRBM says otherwise.

As highlighted in my letter “Back to the old way of getting BR1M vouchers” ( The Star, April 4), recipients who collect their BR1M payment from Bank Simpanan Nasional have to make numerous trips to various places before finally collecting the money from the bank.

In addition, such recipients are unable to update their personal information online but can only do so by submitting the form to the nearest IRBM office.

With so much hassle and inconvenience for this group of BR1M recipients, IRBM should clarify whether the personal information has to be updated yearly or once every three years as per the BR1M 2018 pamphlet.
