Change of transfer window dates was teams’ request

-

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Football League (MFL) have clarified that the decision to bring forward the M-League transfer window was a collective decision following a request from teams.

The M-League second transfer window was initially slated to open from May 10-June 10 but it has been moved forward from today to June 3.

And it has caused an uproar from football fans, who are alleging that the decision has benefitted certain teams.

MFL, the M-League organisers, said their board of directors made the decision following the teams’ request during a meeting held on March 5.

“The MFL’s board of directors is made up of M-League teams’ representatives and it was a collective decision to change the dates,” said MFL in a statement.

“The teams wanted the transfer window to take place at the halfway mark of the M-League season.

MFL have issued letters to 24 M-League teams about the decision.

The second transfer window will see several teams making changes to their respective squads as they try to salvage the season after poor showings in the first half of the season.

Super League title contenders Pahang, who lost striker Francis Doe following a serious injury since March, are expected to sign a replacement.

Relegation battlers Negri Sembilan are also expected to bolster their squad after axing ineffective imports.

Heavyweights Johor Darul Ta’zim have already signed strikers Harry Novillo of Martinique and Brazilian Jorge Silva and will register the players today.
